H.J. was a long time inactive ham.
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, February 11,
2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for
H.J. Cook, 93, who passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at Lafayette
General Medical Center.
Entombment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Reverend Mark Benge, Pastor of 1st United Methodist Church of Lafayette,
assisted by former pastor Reverend Jan Curwick, will officiate.
H.J. was born Wednesday, March 27, 1918 in Patterson and was a long-time
resident of Acadiana. He attended S.L.I., the Southwestern Institute of
LA, formerly USL, and graduated in 1941. A dedicated member of the
Evangeline Shrine Club in Lafayette, H.J. retired as a teacher from New
Iberia Vocational School and was a member of 1st United Methodist Church
of Lafayette.
H.J. loved to camp and fish at Toledo Bend with his beloved wife and
friend Nadine, with whom he recently celebrated 70 years of marriage on
January 24th of this year. He was a most loving and supportive husband,
father, grandfather and friend and will be very deeply missed.
Mr. Cook is survived by his wife Nadine Miller Cook of Lafayette; his
son Jerry J. Cook and his wife, Vida, also of Lafayette; his daughter
Diane Wilkins and her husband, Haley of Chattanooga, TN; and his beloved
granddaughter and grandson, Christine Goodwin and her husband, Darrell,
also of Chattanooga and Jay J. Cook, of Monroe, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Horace Berwick Cook and the
former Mary Elizabeth Bourgeois; and two siblings, a brother and a sister.
Visiting hours at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette will be
observed on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. until time of
services.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Cook, Jack Ross, Roland Taylor, Mark Pitre,
Bob Peterson and Roger Williams.
Honorary Bearers are John Kenney, Haley Wilkins, Grover Miller, James
Knight and Ken Rabalais.
The family wishes to thank the staff on the ninth floor at Lafayette
General Medical Center and Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate
care extended to H.J. and his family.
