Erna Dora Schomberg Turner
November 25, 1920 – January 30, 2016
Erna Turner of Longview, Texas formerly of New Braunfels, Texas passed
away January 30, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She
was born in Kenney, Texas to Albert and Frieda Meier Schomberg on
November 25, 1920.
On March 11, 1945 Erna married Claude E. Turner in San Antonio. They
moved to New Braunfels in 1949 and in 1958 she and her husband Claude
were transferred to Reno, Nevada. In December of 1965 they were
transferred back to Texas to Burkburnett and Shepherd AFB. In 1979 they
returned to New Braunfels, after Claude’s retirement. She was a member
of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the church
and the quilting group. Erna was a retired school lunch room cook where
she did the baking for the school while they lived in Reno, NV and
Burkburnett, TX. She was a housewife that loved to cook, make quilts
and play 42.
Erna is survived by her son Douglas Turner and daughter-in-law Deborah
of Marshall TX; daughter Jo Ann Keith and son-in-law John of Diana, TX;
granddaughter Amy Trisler; great-grandchildren Shelby and Dillon Martin
of Henderson, TX; sisters-in-law Ruby Schomberg of San Antonio and
Marguerite Wilson of New Braunfels; brother-in-law Kenneth Hoffman of
Poteet and several nieces and nephews.
Erna is preceded in death by her husband Claude E. Turner; brothers
Emanuel, Joe, Edward and Arthur Schomberg; sister Ora Lee Hoffman;
sisters-in-law Maxine and Keitha Schomberg and parents Albert Henry and
Frieda Meier Schomberg.
A special thanks to all the wonderful people at Buckner Westminster
Place in Longview, TX and to Faith Hospice for all their compassion and
care.
Funeral services will be held at the Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New
Braunfels on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 2:00PM with a visitation
prior to the service from 12:00-2:00PM. Interment will follow the
service at Comal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Alzheimer’s Association.
