*DUNCAN LEE CARTER - W5DC*

Duncan Lee Carter, 71, of Boulder, passed away on June 5, 2012 of a 
blood disorder. He was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 15, 
1940. Duncan was the loving husband of 48 years to Diane; proud father 
of Lee, Davin, Rush, and Cary; and loving grandfather to Laura, 
Courtney, Reuben, Brent, Megan, Keith, Ariel, Delaney, Caleb, and 
Faelan. He is survived by his mother, Emily and stepmother Mary and was 
proceeded in death by his father, Arthur.

Duncan, W5DC, was an avid amateur radio operator and he obtained his 
first radio license at age 14. He also enjoyed cycling, cross country 
skiing, hiking, and camping. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering 
from L.S.U and also studied at MIT and S.M.U. He received several 
patents on antenna design and was self employed in the Mechanical and 
Electrical Engineering fields since 1972. He founded Vibrotek Vibration 
Technologies which partnered with VibroAcoustical Systems and 
Technologies, Inc in Russia.

We will celebrate Duncan's life at 5pm on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at East 
Boulder Senior Center located at 5660 Sioux Drive, Boulder, Colorado. A 
reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family 
requests donations be made to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield 
Counties, 1855 Plaza Drive, Louisville, 80027, who offered such 
wonderful care for Duncan and his family during their time of need.

First licensed as WN5IOU in 1954 in Louisiana, W5IOU in 1955, Amateur 
Extra and First Radiotelephone in 1958, W5DC in 1976, escaped from 
Louisiana to Colorado in 1986.  Worked for Collins Radio in Dallas as an 
antenna designer BR ( before Rockwell ) and for Hy-Gain, consultant in 
antenna design and vibration analysis, currently President of and dsp 
programmer for VibroTek, Inc.

Reformed former HF contester and HF/VHF/UHF dxer, double 5BDXCC worked 
in first year of 5BDXCC.  Severe QSL card burn-out, retreated to 160 and 
1296!

Current HF rig  is a K3 and it's predecessor, a very modified FT-101E, 
100 watts to end loaded vertical dipoles.

Married to Diane, quilter and retired Registered Nurse since 1965.

Other interests include entertaining my 10 grandchildren, bicycling, and 
hiking, enjoying the revenge of seeing my 4 sons deal with their children.
