TRIBUTE TO WAYNE GORDON, K5DF, SK
Wayne Gordon, K5DF, passed away at home on Saturday morning, May 18,
2013, at the age of 71. Wayne was a pillar in our local amateur radio
area as well as a beloved friend. Professionally, Wayne retired as an
electrical and instrumentation engineer who worked with Texas
Instruments in Dallas and Exxon in Baton Rouge and later as a consultant.
He demonstrated over his 57 years in amateur radio his helpfulness &
ingenuity and elmered a lot of us. Active in local amateur radio his
call sign for 51 years was K5EOA. He is a recipient of the QCWA
Meritorious Award as well as the Stanley Preston and BR Amateur Radio
Award for his services. His passion was DXing and received the DXCC
Honor Roll Award and the 5 Band DXCC Award. Wayne has served at numerous
hamfests as a "card checker" for the DX Association awards. He was
associated in organizing the Red Stick DX Association. Wayne later
pursued QRP and was very active in Foxhunting. Wayne enjoyed CW and was
a very active operator during Field Day for the BRARC. Wayne was a net
controller for the QWCA and the BRARC's BR Public Service Net providing
local, weekly roll calls for local hams. Wayne was an educator and
participated in numerous license classes for persons interested in
amateur radio. He was a great storyteller of the history of local
amateur radio as well.
Wayne will truly be missed. Wayne is survived by his spouse, Maureen,
Visitation will be on Monday, May 27 from 6:00 til 8:00 PM and on
Tuesday, May 28 from 10:00 AM with
Chapel Service at 12:00.
