      The AARA will again take part in the 135 mile Tour du Teche Canoe 
Race on October 6th, 7th, 8th, 2023
along the Teche Bayou from Port Barre to Berwick, LA.

The Hurricane Watch Net (WHN) is now activated on 40 meters 7.268 MHz 
and 20 meters on 14.325 MHz for
Hurricane Idalia.

HWN and SATERN have agreed upon the following rules in regard to the 
handling of Health & Welfare messages:

1. Only OUTBOUND Health & Welfare messages – messages coming OUT of a 
disaster impacted area - will be accepted.
2. INBOUND Health & Welfare Inquiry messages – messages going INTO a 
disaster impacted area inquiring about the health and welfare of someone 
in the impact area – will NOT be accepted.  The primary reason is that 
neither HWN nor SATERN have the resources to search for the recipients 
of such messages inside of a disaster area.  There are also a number of 
liability issues involved.
3. Only Health & Welfare messages of a positive nature (e.g. “The family 
is OK and is located at…”, etc.) will be accepted or delivered.
4. Health & Welfare messages of a non-positive nature (e.g. a death or 
injury notification, the loss of a home, etc.) will NOT be accepted or 
delivered.  Such messages MUST be delivered by the original sender 
personally or through official channels.  This is due to the liability 
issues involved.  In addition, none of our operators are properly 
trained to deliver such emotionally-charged information.
